Penny Wars – 8/5 through 8/30

What Is It?

Penny Wars is a fundraiser where students collect pennies, coins, dollars, and checks, battling for the highest classroom total. Money collected during the first 3 turn ins will go toward the students’ class total. The class with the highest total prior to BOMB DAY will be the “Pre-BOMB DAY Winner”.

Bomb Day

On the final turn in day, BOMB DAY, students will take the money they have collected and “BOMB” or sabotage other classes by putting their money in other class buckets. The money in each class bucket on BOMB DAY will be DEDUCTED from their overall total from the first 3 turn ins. The class with the highest remaining overall total after bomb day will be the “Post BOMB-Day Winners”

Rewards

  • The top teacher PRE and POST bomb day will receive a $200 credit toward their classroom.
  • The top class PRE and POST bomb day will get will receive a trip to NCG Cinemas to watch a movie (during the school day).
  • 1st Turn-In (Friday, August 9th): Winning class gets donuts and juice/milk.
  • 2nd Turn-In (Friday, August 16th): Winning class gets popsicles and baby wipes.
  • 3rd Turn-In (Friday, August 23th): Winning class gets pizza.
  • Bomb Day (Friday, August 30th): FLAMINGLE! Mr. Taylor & Mrs. Broche, while dressed in inflatable flamingo suits, will run through a flamingo maze, while having water balloons thrown by BOTH winning class (Pre and Post Bomb Day).
  • The ENTIRE SCHOOL will celebrate with a REWARD DAY on September 20th, compliments of the PTO, once we meet our goal.

Academic Connections

Students learn to differentiate coin value.

Students practice counting money.

Builds classroom camaraderie.

New vocabulary – strategy, competition, SABOTAGE

Additional Notes

  • Leaderboard will be announced to students each week. Weekly updates will also be posted on the school Facebook page.
  • Because class sizes are not the same, winning classes will be determined by the average amount turned in per student in each class.
  • Please make checks payable to: UNION PTO. A Square link for card payments will be provided once Penny Wars begins.
